Bio

Trevor Solway, Sinakson, is a Blackfoot filmmaker from Siksika ​Nation. He attended the Independent Indigenous Digital ​Filmmaking program at Capilano University in 2012. He then ​graduated from Mount Royal University with his Bachelor’s of ​Communications in 2017. His Breakthrough film Indian Giver ​screened internationally and can now be found on Amazon Prime ​Video. Trevor’s broadcast debut came in the form of his ​documentary Intertribal on CBC Television and CBC GEM. In 2021 ​Trevor directed the POV documentary Kaatohkitopii (Kit-tay-kit-toe-​pee) The Horse He Never Rode, for CBC and CBC Gem. In 2022 ​he directed an episode of the docs-series Stuff The British Stole ​for CBC/ABC and an episode Amplify for APTN. He is the ​writer/director/showrunner of Tales From The Rez, a horror ​comedy anthology series available on APTN Lumi (2023).


He is currently in post-production for his most recent feature ​documentary Siksikakowan: The Blackfoot Man, which is produced ​by The National Film Board of Canada.


In 2020 Trevor was the recipient of MRU Horizon Award for early ​career success and in 2021 he was named Avenue Magazine’s ​Top 40 Under 40. He is the founder and leader of The Napi ​Collective, a grassroots filmmaking society based out of Siksika ​Nation.

Kaatohkitopii: The Horse He Never Rode ​(CBC GEM) - Feature Documentary

This documentary dives into the complexity of an ​old Indian Cowboy. Through re-enactments and ​archival footage Director Trevor Solway examines ​how his relationship to his late grandfather ​shaped his perceptions of work, sacrifice and ​masculinity.

Siksikakowan is about how Indigenous men ​experience and express masculinity in their ​everyday lives. This feature length documentary ​follows a selection of Blackfoot men and captures ​their masculinity in its raw form.

Chief Crowfoot chooses between signing a deal ​with Queen Victoria or facing disease and ​devastation, and the British forces might literally ​steal the shirt from his back.

Country music star Armond Duck Chief shares his ​Blackfoot Nation’s deep connection to horses as ​he sings about the complex lives of Indigenous ​cowboys. In this episode, we meet Blackfoot ​cowboy legend Alison Red Crow and relay racing ​star Travis Maguire.

Settler - Coming Soon

-Narrative Short

This allegorical horror film is about a Settler family ​moving to the “frontier” in the late 1880s in ​hopes of establishing a prosperous homestead. ​Their claim to the land is met by the Blackfoot ​Trickster Napi, who offers more than just goods to ​share.
